About Hammond House

Hammond House is one of the fabulous houses nestled between two historical Sea Captain houses on Courtenay Terrace in Salcombe; in fact, Hammond may well refer to a notable doctor that once lived in the area. The house lives up to its expected reputation, by being exceptionally large and very comfortable across its four floors.

The Space

Very similar in design to its neighbours, it has a wonderful gabled roof with ornate woodwork, and two large balconies extending from the rooms on the first and second floors plus an enclosed glass conservatory on the ground floor level with further decking. Painted in a pleasing brick red and complemented by brown timber railings it is a very striking and handsome house.

There is an expansive deck at the rear of the house, with space in abundance, for outdoor dining – enough room for ten - and lounging room for more. With tempered glass screens surrounding you and the neighbouring properties’ verandas your view is happily uninterrupted. You have incredible picture-perfect views across Salcombe harbour and can soak up the full Salcombe experience from here.

Entering the property from the street, you find yourself on the ground floor, where the master bedroom with its huge dressing room and full-sized en suite bathroom with corner bath, shower cubicle, sink and loo are situated. There’s also a well-equipped utility room, with plenty of space for hanging coats and storing outdoor shoes, etc.

From here you can go down to the lower ground floor where the kitchen, reception, dining area and patio are or upstairs to the other four bedrooms.

Downstairs, the kitchen is vast and very well-equipped with duck egg blue Shaker style cabinets, an attractive wooden floor in a herringbone pattern and enough room for ten to dine. Double oven, hob, microwave, double sink and drainer, dishwasher, American-style fridge freezer, and more than enough storage.

The sitting room that leads out onto the veranda is sun-drenched. There’s a super cool jukebox, as well as other audio-visual entertainment, with two large sofas and plenty of armchairs to sink into.

Period features with a super stairwell and original balustrades do make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. And some of the rooms in particular have the feeling of aged grandeur to them.

Upstairs, the second bedroom is a cosy and elegant double bedroom with the original wrought iron fireplace still in place, decorated in primrose yellow, plus inset cupboards, wardrobe, and a delightful dressing table. This room has an en suite loo and hand basin.

The third bedroom is a spacious and smart twin bedroom, tastefully furnished, with a balcony to sit out on and enjoy the views from. There’s an en suite bathroom with shower here too.

The top floor holds the master bedroom, with a full-sized family bathroom and beautiful oak cupboards a highlight of this room. Across the landing is a lovely large twin bedroom.  There’s also a glorious captain’s style desk at the landing at top of the stairs, for those who need to take some time for work or some peace to send some emails.

Outside, there’s a fully functioning hot tub and a jacuzzi shower and bath, plus a gas barbecue.
