About Driftwood House
Comfortably nestled in the heart of Salcombe’s busy town, yet unexpectedly private and tucked away from the hustle and bustle, sits Driftwood House. With an unassuming, yet cosily attractive façade, the charm and smart design of this period property is undeniable. Additionally, you’re only a short walk away from all the attractions the town holds.
The Space
The overarching feeling within Driftwood House is that of light and space. There are windows and skylights throughout, which gives such an airy feeling that it’s quite heady.
Entering through the front door, you are drawn into a bright and welcoming hallway, with a sizeable double (twin) nautically themed bedroom on the left, and a beautifully appointed cloakroom and door to the rear, leading to the light-filled and superbly appointed kitchen that opens to a delightful sitting room-dining area. As you might expect from such a multi-functional room this is expansive and perfect for socialising and relaxing. The kitchen maintains the lightness, with cream Shaker-style cupboards in abundance, on one side and gorgeous light oak dressers and cupboards on the other. With whites and duck egg blues used on the walls, and beautiful petrol covered sofas in the sitting room with tonal prints to set them off, the overriding sense is that a lot of tasteful thought has gone into the design of the accommodation.
Double doors open out onto a wide, sun lovers’ terrace, ideal for alfresco entertaining.
Your outdoor dining is secluded yet spacious, with high walls giving privacy and shade plus a hint of the Mediterranean.
Ideal for large groups of family and friends, accommodation is generously roomy, arranged across all four floors, with the addition of a lovely detached, self-contained annexe at the other end of the terrace. The annexe is simply delightful. It hosts an open-plan sitting/bedroom area, shower room, and compact kitchen. No thought has been spared to the décor, with wooden flooring, driftwood mobiles, and charming prints decorating the walls, it feels more like staying with a friend or in your own home. There’s an adorable duck egg blue sofa to cosy up on, with a dining table and your own tiny galley kitchen to prepare a mini repast from.
Back in the main property, the first-floor features two sizeable and beautifully styled double bedrooms – one with near country cottage perfection, featuring sumptuous floral bedspreads and delicate touches, and one with a cool blue feel to its décor, alongside a family bathroom.
Rising to the second floor, the prime bedroom suite occupies the entire top level, echoes the country living stylisation and boasts an en-suite bathroom. It also provides tantalising glimpses of the sparkling waters over Batson - offering a peaceful and dreamy haven with the allure of coastal magic.
From the terrace, steps descend to a private entrance to the generous double garage, which can also be accessed from a quiet rear lane and internally from the lower ground level. A staircase from the main living area leads down to a cellar, where you can store your bikes or your bottles of bubbly, plus your suitcases don’t need to get in the way for the duration of your stay. In addition to this, there is a double garage and cellar for storage of surfboards, kayaks, etc.
